This weeks post has a special place in my heart. Everyone has a favorite food. For a decade now I can say that I never really know what my favorite food is because I have so many varying favorites with absolutely no similarities. But by far crab is at the top of my list and my favorite spot to visit every summer for my birthday is The Boiling Crab. Never heard of it? Well, you're missing out. The one I frequent most is the small location nestled in the heart of Korea Town next to another favorite of mine, HoneyMee. Visiting these two locations barely even 40 feet apart from each other has become a tradition in my family and tons of friends have caught on. Trust me when I say this is an all day affair and an absolute mess. You don't want to wear your favorite clothes to this place. Recently, my family and I have more than once visited a closer spot in the valley called Kickin Kasian. This hot spot is the perfect substitute for the boiling crab for all of you not willing to make the trip to LA. They've got a super similar menu with a very close to identical flavor profile so there is nothing to be ashamed of if you decided to make a visit to Northridge instead of trekking over the hill. If you've already looked at the menu and you don't have any idea of what to get, my typical order would be: the Catfish Basket with fries, a pound of snow crab (the whole shabang or Kickin mix original,) and a half pound of shrimp (FYI: these come with the head on for you squeamish ones! And the portions are big enough to share)
So to all of you seafood lovers, garlic and spice obsessed eaters, and foodies alike; grab a plastic bib, and get to crackin. And please, don't forget mommies wet wipes, you will thank her later.
